SELLING THE FAMILY FARM/ASSETS (STEP 2)

INDEPENDENT SALES & VALUATION ADVICE

Following on from last weeks Blog on Step 1 of Selling The Family Farm / Assets where we covered seeking legal advice as your first point of contact , we now move onto the second step which is to obtain independent sales and valuation advice.

CHARACTERISTICS

It is important that the sales agents you have asked to advise you clearly outlines the characteristics of the property;

  • The most appropriate means of disposal (Public Auction or Private Treaty).

  • Advertising costs.

  • Fee quote.

  • The optimum time to be selling the property.

  • Recommended division of the property which may maximise the price achieved.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT AGENT FOR THE JOB

In selecting an agent we would make the following recommendations:

  • Choose an agency that has a proven track record with an extensive contact base in dealing with similar property.

  • Choose an agency with professional staff whom you can trust and establish a good working relationship.

TOP TIP:

Do not fall into the trap of choosing the cheapest or the most expensive agent. Your choice should be governed by your own objectives and the confidence you have in the agent being able to achieve them, not by what you pay them.
