TIPS FOR SELLING YOUR HOME? - Week 3
So now you have got the front of the house and garden ready, we can now move onto the first and the last room a buyer is going to see… the underrated and sometimes neglected Entrance Hall.
The entrance hall is the gateway to your home and as a result gets a lot of wear and tear. It can leave a lasting impression on a potential buyer but not always for the right reason. We need to treat the hallway as an actual room with a proper identity and purpose. This will help to make it work for you and while securing that all important sale.
Front Door
The front door plays a very important role in first impressions but we sometimes forget about the inside of the door. Painting the inside of the door in a neutral white colour can transform any door. You’ll be amazed at how much bigger and brighter this will also make your hallway feel.
Stairwell
Spruce up a tired staircase by revarnishing or painting it, to give it a new lease of life.
Walls
If the walls are looking a little worse for wear paint them in a neutral colour. This will give the hall a cleaner and brighter look.
Flooring
Adding a long narrow mat can add warmth and make the hall more welcoming. A carpet cleaner and a little elbow grease can also help to revive old carpets on the stairs and landing.
Shelving
Cover up unsightly radiators with a radiator cover! Not only will this hide the radiator but it will also give you some extra shelving space to place a plant or candle on. Remember you can always bring the cover with you to your next home.
Gallery
Create a gallery wall by hanging inexpensive prints or artwork to give it a personal touch and choose coordinating frames in a single color.
Storage
Make use of any understairs storage. Buy an inexpensive shoe rail and hang a coat rack so you can keep the hallway clear of day to day items.
Doorways
Ensure you fix any loose door handles leading off the hall and give the doors a quick wipe or touch up to remove any sticky finger marks. Don’t forget to leave any doors open during viewings to borrow some extra light.
Seeing is Believing !
Add a mirror to create the illusion of a larger area. Mirrors brighten the space by reflecting the light from lighting fixtures or nearby windows. You could also add a shelf below an existing mirror to give it a more furnished look.
Look Up !
Ceiling lights can sometimes get forgotten about. Give them a light dusting and check bulbs are in working order. If all else fails treat yourself to a new light fixture, which again you can bring with you to your new home.
